I don’t think I’ve come across Arachne before, but I enjoyed the puzzle. The clues were mostly fair, although some were quite tricky and four living people – all politicians – appeared in the solution (which I wasn’t expecting, being a regular Times solver). I didn’t see the wordplay of a couple of clues while solving, but I got most of them later when I had access to a dictionary.

It’s celebrated in the first clue. Some unfamiliar words made it a little harder than sometimes for me. Congrats to Quixote on reaching this landmark. If an anorak wishes to probe why the paper itself is numbered 898, good luck to him/her.

After a long day at work documenting code I just wasn’t ready for a Nimrod puzzle. It finally defeated me a few minutes ago when I used TEA to check the last but one answer and then guessed the last one. As usual Nimrod has provided a tremendous challenge with some excellent clues but on this occasion just too much for me. There were a couple of new words in here and some very clever word play. However, a couple of word plays left me guessing and two answers are guesses from the definitions and so may be wrong, definitely maybe. Read the rest of this entry »

Just some quick notes about this puzzle written up a day after I solved (and re-solved!) the puzzle. Quite a few clever Pauline (not Paulene!) fun and games. Some post-post editing thanks to various comments below.
