FT 12,949/Mudd

Posted by smiffy on 12th December 2008

A healthy assortment of subject matter and chicanery today, with nothing being too obscure (although 22A may have perplexed those who have never dared to cross the threshold of a betting shop).

Independent 6914/Phi

Posted by John on 12th December 2008

I didn’t time myself for this as I was listening to England’s heroics in India at the same time, so probably not giving it quite the usual attention. It seemed the usual Phi thing, fairly straightforward but with some very good clues. 4dn took me a long time, as did 20ac. Eventually I had to cheat electronically with these. Guardian 24,570/Chifonie

Posted by Andrew on 12th December 2008

After Araucaria’s Miltonic epic and Paul’s Queen/Chess combo this week it was almost a relief to return to milder waters today with Chifonie. Independent 6909/Bannsider (Prize puzzle 06-12-08)

Posted by neildubya on 12th December 2008

A pleasure to solve. Read the rest of this entry »

Inquisitor 101 – HKL by Raich

Posted by duncanshiell on 12th December 2008

I suspect this puzzle should have been published the previous week rather than the 29th November when it did see the light of day. It obviously got bounced by Inquisitor 100 with its thematic link to the number 100.

Enigmatic Variations 840: Late by MynoT

Posted by Dave Hennings on 12th December 2008

Dave Hennings.

I don’t know whether I feel relieved that the first two puzzles I’ve blogged have been so easy, or cheated out of a few hours entertainment. I know that the EV is generally easier than the Listener and Inquiisitor, but even so! And, it has to be said, MynoT puzzles have been quite tricky in the past. His last EV (number 823, Alchemy) was pretty tough, as was a recent Listener (number 3995, Past Times) with the French Revolutionary Calendar as its theme, a truly beautiful puzzle.
