Hi Uncle Yap

I agree with Smutchin - and, of course, your blogs are always so comprehensive that there is not much left to comment on. You get many more responses on the Guardian blog but that's because Guardian solvers are, on the whole, much more argumentative and less content to stay on the topic of the day's puzzle - which is why I find it such fun to blog. It really is a labour of love to blog a puzzle and receive so little response. I remember commenting a while ago on the dedication of the bloggers of the difficult weekend puzzles [Azed Enigmatic Variations et al], which I don't even attempt, where what must be hours of work usually elicits no response at all.

But thank you for the blog, anyway! I remember enjoying this puzzle but, as Smutchin says, there's such a time lag with the FT that it's difficult to remember the thoought processes.

Year ago I picked up a French-English crossword book where half the number of puzzles had definitional clues in French for which you had to put in English answers and the other half vice versa.

Having done a basic course in French, I was curious and bought it in a jumble sale.

I have an awareness of the French language but honestly I can't speak or write in it.
