I am standing in at the last moment so it is now over a month since I completed this puzzle and therefore I don’t remember too much about the detail, though writing the blog has brought back some pleasant memories. What I do recall though is that, as usual, it was an enjoyable puzzle from Paul.

The usual excellent crossword from Dac, but when is he ever less than excellent? I found this unusually easy apart from two clues, one of which I got wrong. After doing 4ac and 9ac I thought that there might be a rare Dac Nina connected with Darwin, but this wasn’t supported by anything else. No doubt someone will point out what I have missed.

An enjoyable, though I thought somewhat easier than usual (the non-thematic clues at least), Cinephile today in which we were told ‘the monarch is the same throughout’. The first thematic entry I got was the anagram at 25/19 which told me that the monarch was ‘Louis XIV’. This (and Wikipedia where necessary, 4d & 6d) helped in solving the remaining thematic clues.

A very straightforward puzzle today, with very little to comment on. 14dn raised a wry smile but, for me, it doesn’t match Paul’s classic ‘Man United playing away from home.’
