Private Eye/Cyclops 388 – In your end-o

beermagnet.

A solid outing in this issue. Nothing to moan about. Nothing to praise to the rafters perhaps but tight clueing leading to certain answers. I solved this quite swiftly (approx. 1 pint) but I can’t bring myself to class it as an easy example of the oeuvre – I was in a good mood for solving.

Across
8 IN THE BAG (BATHING)* AInd: screwed around [mat]E
9 BRUNEI RUNE inside BI

23 LOCK HORNS HORN inside LOCKS
25 SARAH SA RA [mic]H[eal] More Palinanity. Looks like she will last longer in crosswords than politics – here’s hoping.

6 INNUENDO (DI, NO NUN E[cstasy])* AInd: philandering Nice Anagrind, somehow the surface reading stops it from being a top clue.
7 TIGHT-ARSED TIGHT (pissed) ARSE (rat) D[ate] Had to think about the wordplay here as the Def. (mean) could just mean tight.
13 THUMB A LIFT (TIT BUM HALF)* AInd: shaking
15 DISPENSARY PENS (small containers) inside DIARY (log)
17 TRUNCATE T[ime] RUN (hurry) CATE (Blanchett)

19a An arse is a bounder so was the word play “an aborigine down under” = bo-under? Was my last one in and don’t understand it. Is an aborigien a bo?

  2. beermagnet says:

Anon, a kangaroo is a “native Australian”, and is a “bounder”!

As I understand it, an Aborigine is an “abo”.
