I print out the puzzles and do them at a very leisurely pace. 6D “Mean activity of man molesting woman”.
Why “of man” exactly?

In 6A, I think you mean, you’re quite right that the “of man” isn’t strictly necessary, but is included to improve the surface reading. The first definition is “Mean activity of man” (meaning mankind).
