An extremely enjoyable offering with a high proportion of spoonerisms. I was held up a bit by being convinced that 1 across must be Elwin and misspelling Marti Pellow as Marty Pellow.

1 Elvis: Le[ar]< + v + is. Elvis Presley is called the King by his fans.
4 Nebuliser: (Blue rinse)*.
9 Charlotte: Contains the word “harlot”.
10 Crowd: Crow + d.
11 Osmosis: This was the only one I didn’t fully understand. Seems to be O+SMO+sis, but I don’t know what an SMO is.
13 Myspace: spy* in mace.
14 Herculean: Clue* in Hera + [fiftee]n.
16 Jihad: J + I had.
18 Rainy: Ray around In.
20 Maestro: (Teams or)*.
22 Roe Deer: Sp “Doe rear”.
23 Solar: So + lar[d].
24 Incubator: In + Cuba + tor.
26 Cowabunga: Cow + a + bung + a. This is apparently called out in celebration after a successful cow tipping.
27/19 Giant Haystacks: Giant Haystacks was a British wrestler and the rest is a CD reference to searching for needles in haystacks.
1 Each other: (Chat here)* around o.
2 Via: VA (abbrev for Virginia) around I.
3 Salisbury: Say around Lisbur[n].
4 Nates: (Set an)<.
5 Beer money: Sp “Mere bunny” + CD ref to bread as money.
6 Locus: Locus[t].
7 Stomach ache: She around (Tom a cha c).
8 Ridge: [F]ridge.
12 Marti Pellow: Sp “Party Mellow”.
15 Ethiopian: The* + IO + P + Ian. Dire Dawa. Io is a moon of Jupiter.
16 Jitterbug: Sp “Bitter jug”.
17 Desert Rat: Restarted*.
20 Music: (I sum)< + c.
21 Throb: T + Hr + OB (Old Boy).
22 Recta: Hom of rector (recta is plural of rectum).
25 Tea: DD.

Really enjoyed this one, and seemed to get through it quicker than most Punks. Good to see MYSPACE appearing in a puzzle. Likewise COWABUNGA, which raised a smile and made me start humming the Ninja Turtles theme tune.

15d Ethiopian was last in for me, Dire Dawa not being one of my regular haunts. But since Punk obviously wanted to avoid giving the game away by using Addis Ababa, why not ‘…Scotsman from Afar, perhaps” – a region of Ethiopia crying out for such cruciverbal exploitation.

I think ‘cowabunga’ is a word Bart Simpson is keen on.
