Hi smiffy
You weren't alone regarding 11ac. I initially looked for a hidden word as well. Fortunately I quickly noticed the superfluous E.

Sorry but I will have to disagree with you about 8dn. I can find no justification in any of the usual references for SP being anything other than the odds at the start of the race. However, my knowledge of betting parlance is non-existent, never having been in a bookmakers or to a race meeting.

Com is in Chambers and Collins but not COED.

G'day Gaufrid,

Admittedly it's a touch ambiguous, but I think 11A was intended as a hidden clue rather than an angaram?

8D, I think, is just about acceptable. When "investing" on a racehorse, you can often have the choice of your bet being at current odds or the SP. In that context, SP can be considered a "bet" (although maybe only in betting shop conversations; plus that'd still make it an unflagged definition-by-example!).

I also picked out 12A and 27A as faves. But had never encountered "Com" as Communist before (4D).
