If it waddles like a Falcon and quacks like a Falcon then it’s probably a Falcon. An engaging solve, while it lasted, but ultimately a short-lived skirmish.

A fine puzzle in Nimrod’s very distinctive style. On the hard side, as one expects from Nimrod. Solving time, 41 mins.

I found this very good but also very tough indeed, solved in a couple of sessions which came to about 45 minutes when I just had 24D left to complete. It took me another 5-10 minutes to tumble to the reason why DYED was the right answer. I also had one wrong answer. No complaints except the muttering at 11D – there are lots of really original clues in this puzzle, and that’s also why it’s hard (he says, awaiting the news that someone did it in 10 minutes).

Prize puzzle from the Weekend FT of June 19
I found this puzzle considerably more challenging than most Cincinnuses although not quite as difficult as that really tough one he gave us a while back. I am unable to figure out the wordplay of 10A but am guessing that GLORIA is the solution as it is the only word I can find that fits. I think the stand-out clues here are 9A (CONSERVE), 13A (DETRACTOR) and 11D (STAB).
