A relatively manageable week I think, albeit followed by a pretty tentative blog as I no longer have online access to Chambers. I wonder if I’m the only one having trouble re-subscribing, or indeed even getting a response from them.

Update: Due to the feedback received, and some volunteers willing to blog, we will start covering the Quiptic within the next couple of weeks next Monday (23rd Aug.). Initially the blog style will be similar to the other posts on this site but Anax’s suggestion at comment #24 will be considered further once the new team members have settled in.

Pleasing puzzle with some nice humorous touches from Quaiteaux. I found parts of it very easy, but then struggled a bit with the NW corner, tho my last two entries were 13A and 6D. Solving time, 24 mins. For technical reasons associated with the computer I’m working on today, I cannot access the solutions on the Indy website to verify. If any are wrong, happy if someone can point that out.

A Monday and no Rufus! A good mixture of clues from Logodaedalus made this an enjoyable start to the week, and there were no naval references to throw us, which made a change. The top left hand corner was the last to go in, and we took longer than we should have done on the longer clues around the edge of the grid. One unresolved clue: 25ac.

I made a note that I only had 10 answers in place after the first pint, which is an indication that this was harder than the last few Eye crossies. On the other hand, after a breather the rest fell in short order. Crossing letters helped for the last few but nothing that didn’t have wordplay understood. Last to drop – 8D Empathy.
I see Selfridges are being lambasted again for starting the “Christmas Shopping Experience” five months early. As a computer programmer I like celebrating early and often, at Halloween as well as the other one. Why? … Read the rest of this entry »
