In 26d, I thought the &#039;heavyweight&#039; was a BOXER, which after disheartening would become a BOER.

I am not sure whether 14ac (STRING ALONG) is a dd.
It could be that STRING is a &#039;stay&#039;, and ALONG is &#039;with&#039;.
