Pardon the later-than-usual appearance of the Tuesday blog. The Christmas revelry continues. Chifonie gave us an almost painless puzzle with delightful bits here and there. Most entertaining.

This was hard as Scorpion often is, so well-chosen by the Indy for a Holiday Monday, got there in the end, solving time, 62 mins.

It might have been post-Crimbo lethargy on my part, but I found this hard going in places, with some convoluted clues and a term I’d never heard of before. However, there were some nice touches too. Sorry the blog is a bit later than normal, but watching Ponting lose it in the Ashes had to be fitted into my morning schedule today, and being a man, I can’t multi-task.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I’m afraid this is a very rushed post due to family commitments – I’m sorry I didn’t have more time to enjoy this one. An excellent puzzle, as ever from this setter.

An enjoyable, festive-themed Quixote today. All scrupulously fairly clued as always, though the NE and SW corners put up a bit of a fight for me. Still, it all came together in the end.

Lorraine: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. Nice crossword this week, got through it with surprising ease and speed. Lots of favourites, 11ac, 18ac, 27ac and 9dn. First in was 1ac, last in believe it or not was 26ac. Good luck with this weeks bumper crossword. Thanks to gaurfrid for all the work he has done this year and years before on Fifteen Squared, and of course as always a big thank you to Everyman for all the excellent crosswords.

Some inventive wordplay in several of the clues within this grid. So much so I have difficulty describing constructions such as 25A JEST (super-definition?) and 19D OBERON (un-hidden? regularly-hidden?). As usual with Nestor the clues are very sound once the construction is seen. And quite accessible in the main – I see I made a note that I had 10 on the first pass – mind you that was quite a slow first pass – I needed a refill at that point. In the end the last few, particularly in the bottom half were much more of a challenge.

This was something a little different, with no setter’s name given and 3 clues having one letter omitted from wordplay that we were told would help with a hidden message.

I must admit to feeling disappointed to see that I’d got a Gordius for my Christmas Eve blog, as he is not one of my favourite setters. I found this one very easy indeed – after printing it off just after it appeared on the website at midnight I’d finished it by 12:09 – with a lot of very obvious wordplay and a few rather tired clichés. I’d come across the obscure word at 23dn before, but the phrase at 22/27ac was new to me in the form given here.

A playful miscellany of items today, as we veer from Playtex push-ups to perma-tan puns, by way of Pertwee portrayals. Apologies for the somewhat tardy post – my web connectivity has not been all that it should for the last 12hours.

I like to work though all the clues first to see how many I can solve cold. As the first clue I solved in this puzzle was 25d, I thought this was going to be a real struggle. However, 1,4 was the next to fall and things improved rapidly after that.
