Happy New Year all.
A perfect way to start 2011 in my book – a well-crafted, elegantly clued Dac puzzle. I found the SW corner a little tough here and the anagram at 2D held me up for a while, but this was every bit as good as we’ve come to expect. There should be 51 more of these beauties before the year’s out too!

A bit of a mixed bag from Cinephile today with some very easy clues, some a little more tricky and one where I think an error has been made in the wordplay. There was a mini-theme involving Alice.

Another year, another Gordius.. In the spirit of the season I can say that I mostly enjoyed this, but as usual I have a few niggles, and there a couple of places where I’m not sure I’ve fully understood the clues.

The preamble stated that the first words of a traditional verse are spelled out by single extra letters generated by the wordplay in each down clue, in order. The perimeter (clockwise, in which the barred-off letters could make a BANAL POET CROON) is "clued" by the rest of the first line. A name hidden in the grid cryptically represents the second line and must be highlighted.
