Dante has this last prize and prized puzzle in 2010 … I just wonder whether any FT subscriber would take time off from the Christmas/New Year revelry to enter the Competition.

    Thank you, Uncle Yap. I queried 2 clues: I wasn’t happy with ‘flush out’ for scour until I checked in Chambers – there it is! I only connected scouring to rough scrubbing. We could have thoroughly searched the scrub. :)

    I’m still not happy with 23, feeling that the definitions are too similar.

    I thought 23 was quite OK as a double definition – “Approves of indications of support”. I took ‘approves of’ = favours (vb) with the second part referring to eg badges, emblems, worn to indicate support.
