I took ‘approves of’ = favours (vb) with the second part referring to eg badges, emblems, worn to indicate support.

I queried 2 clues: I wasn’t happy with ‘flush out’ for scour until I checked in Chambers – there it is! I only connected scouring to rough scrubbing. We could have thoroughly searched the scrub. :)

I’m still not happy with 23, feeling that the definitions are too similar.
