I found the NE corner most difficult until I twigged SUETONIUS from suet=fat. EAT CROW was new to me but I guessed the first word had to be ‘eat’ and found the complete answer in Chambers under ‘eat’.
BTW there’s an additional snooker reference in 14ac in that the cueball (white) is not ‘spotted’, i.e. placed on a particular spot marked on the table.

I thought it was easier than previous Bannsiders too. So much so I was only 4 answers short and it’s usually less than a third before I give up with a sore brain. 4/22 down four letter word was satisfying to put in

Thanks for the comprehensive blog Duncan. I found this very entertaining and much easier than previous Bannsiders that I have attempted. In particular there were a couple of long anagrams to get me going. I finished with Noel and Taper, both without understanding the wordplay, on the basis that they could not be anything else.

Thanks for the blog, Duncan, and Bannsider for the puzzle which was excellent. I found it quite a bit easier than some previous Bannsider Indy puzzles. NOEL was my last too and there were some great clues eg SNIFFER DOG, SPANDAU, OVEREXERT.

Got all but Stenorius in the Pub (eventually!) very hard to me as is normal with the Bann Man. Thanks for explaining that/Bannsider for the puzzle.
