Monday Prize Crossword from the FT of Monday May 9

15 YORKIST *(HISTORY plus K[ing] minus H (from 21 down, AITCH))
17 ELECTOR Because ELECTOR and SELECTOR are both choosers (“whether S[pades] lead or not”)

    Many thanks Agentzero

This was as easy as they come but very enjoyable.

  2. PeeDee says:

    Thanks Agentzero

I think inter alia here means ‘in between al and ia‘, ban (law) being the thing removed (outed)from Albania to get alia as you say. A pretty obscure clue compared to teh rest of the crossword.

  3. Sil van den Hoek says:

I have waited for a (long) while to see if someone would come up with something for 16d. PeeDee did, and I’m sure he’s right.
Making it IMO a very clever clue (and certainly nót obscure).
My Clue of the Day was though PAINTER (19ac).
Seen it before but not much better than this.

    Thanns 000.
