Hi flashling,
PORGY AND BESS is just a simple anagram of ‘spread by song’ ……

So it is, thanks Sil, brain dead today, I knew I should have written this up last week

Thanks, flashling.
It took me some moments to figure out the wordplay for 14a as well, although it was obvious once I saw it. It’s amazing how puzzling simple anagrams can be.
I hadn’t seen the wordplay in 8d before. I thought that was excellent.
All in all an easy puzzle. Thanks, Glow-worm, for the entertainment.

Thanks, Glow-worm and flashling. Yes, I enjoyed this too and found it fairly easy by Indy standards. My favourite clues were 8d as mentioned by caretman and 16d with its very amusing surface reading.
