Maybe MCG could have as well been Lords or The Oval, i.e. where play might normally be suspended when the ‘bumbershoots’ go up…?

Re 1d, I too am puzzled by the reference to the MCG and also to suspension of play. I have been living in Australia for 35 years and have never heard the word “boshter” used in conversation or seen it in writing. In fact, I had to look it up to see what it meant. Perhaps someone can enlighten us.

Yes, 11ac. Reading my notes, I had ‘anonmy’ written down, so parsed the clue wrongly in the blog . I have corrected the above, as the solution I had there was utter nonsense.

Thanks Azed and Nick. Jan @2: Chambers (2008, p.768) gives inanga = a small silvery Australasian fish whose young are caught as whitebait. For 11ac (ANONYM) I agree with sidey @1. M = money has the authority of Chambers (2008, p.914).

I assumed AZED used MCG because ‘boshter’ is an Australian word (or so Chambers tells me).

I had dificulty confirming INANGA – is it in the new edition of Chambers?

I parsed ANONYM in the same manner as you.

Can’t help with MCG, but Azed possibly assumed it was Oz (unless it is in the latest C).

ANONYM doesn’t work as you have it, I think it’s ON, just after, in ANY, some, Money.
