In my defence, the font in the title line of the Saturday Indy cryptic is so tiny, it’s a wonder that we ever get it right!

@NMS Lol, couldn’t try this as couldn’t get a copy, the local newsagent had shut down – I was away doing a firework display for a friend’s wedding. @Nimrod can I get a copy?

Thanks for the blog, Simon, and Nimrod for the puzzle. I found it pretty hard, but one expects that from Nimrod so ideal for a Sat. Favourite clues DEER, SPANDAU. HIT HOME was pretty tricky and clever too, I thought.

Re those Nimrod Inquisitors you’d like to see, Simon, I guess it’s a question of whether Nimrod could get them past the editor…

To clarify, I’m not saying this was “hard for a Nimrod”, just that it was hard for me I’ve never really clicked with Nimrod’s blocked puzzles anyway, though I acknowledge that many people love them.

His Inquisitors, on the other hand, are something that I hope to see a lot more of.

PS. Now I’ve realised aught means zero too, I think I actually prefer your version of 21, Simon! Mine requires double duty/a semi-&lit. I’d forgotten aught=naught=nought. Very confusing.

Yes, I’m sure that’s right. It’s a clever definition – I think it may be alluding to the modern managementspeak overuse of “delivery” – “effect delivery” is exactly what I’d expect some boring people in suits to say when what they mean is “hit home” or possibly just “do [x]“. Whether it is or not, it works very well as a synonym for the answer.
