I specially liked ZEITGEIST, as well as HATED for its Derbyshire cricketing reference. But I was keen to see your blog this morning because although I got TETRAGRAM I couldn’t parse it for love nor money. I’ve got a work colleague called Margaret who’s keen on cryptics so I’m going to mail her the clue and see if she gets it.

My knowledge of the hexadecimal system is non-existent, but Happy Birthday anyway!

Thanks Lorraine,

I was mislead by 16d into misspelling ACCORDION ie I interpreted ‘one playing’ as an anagram of ‘one’ leading to EON at the end. I think this was Everyman’s intention. I realised the mistake when ZEITGEIST wouldn’t fit in.

Favourite clues were TAPER and ACCORDION which were very cleverly worded.

Happy birthday Lorraine. My hexadecimal age is 3E (approaching 40) so I’m ‘A’ years older than you. I will keep your secret.

I didn’t get the reversal in 6d (thanks Everyman). But fortunately the definition part of the clue was easy to spot and with the checking letters I got the answer.
