Beautiful stuff once again from the ever-dependable king of Wednesday. This was a pretty fast solve for me and I didn’t stop to parse every clue as the answers went in. Nor to appreciate a lot of them fully, which is a shame because they’re all lovely!

A good crossword from Aardvaark I thought. Not easy, but everthing is there to be found. The clues are very solid, no stray words or dubious definitions at all.

The preamble stated "To reveal the prime example solvers should follow instructions spelt out by single extra letters yielded by the wordplay in each clue in order. Two answers are abbreviations; ignore two punctuation marks."

Some typically tricky stuff here from Enigmatist, who we haven’t seen for a while, but as always very clever, and satisfying to solve. There were quite a few clues where I guessed the answer but couldn’t fully explain the wordplay; fortunately all eventually became clear (or clearer) as I was writing up the blog. The setter has hidden a reference to himself in the puzzle: I can’t see any more of a theme than that, but maybe I’ve missed something.
