Enigmatic Variations No. 997: Sol by Kruger (placeholder, due to extended deadline)
Posted by mc_rapper67 on December 24th, 2011
The entry deadline for this EV has been pushed out to 30-Dec, so I will post the blog on 31-Dec. Also, I have seen somewhere that there will be an ON-LINE ONLY EV (presumably no. 999) on Xmas Day at the Telegraph Crossword site (members only), along with all their other Sunday puzzles. A bit discriminatory against their paper-only solvers, but it must improve the odds of winning a prize this weekend!… A Merry Xmas to you all…

The online one is numbered 100,003 so that it doesn’t interfere with the numbering in the newspaper. (Though why that particular number I don’t understand.) So 999 will appear in the newspaper. Will there be a solution to 100,003 appearing here one day? I’ve finished it but there’s a bit of word play I don’t get. Thanks.

This has put ‘le chat’ amongst ‘les champignons’ in terms of blogging schedules and puzzle sequencing! I’m sure we can arrange a blog for this – I will consult the powers that be…
I think this is the third occurrence of an out-of-sequence set of puzzles like this, and the first time they used 100,001 – just to give the site administrators a headache in the year 3895 AD (or so)
