Finished with aids but couldn’t work out the wordplay for 1a,3d,8d &14d .

Not surprisingly ret was an unknown.

I have been surprised a few times by unexpected portmanteau words showing up in puzzles.

Thanks Pete. I got it out but was left with not knowing how the TER at the end of soda water clued.

When I write I have trouble knowing when to use a hyphen so word construction is not one of my strengths. SWEARWORD I would not have written as one word, however. I would have thought two separate words.

I liked 25A.
