I haven’t blogged many Klingsor puzzles – just two to date – and don’t really have much a track record against him, so I approached this with a degree of trepidation in a week less blogging time than I would have liked. The first time I remember having struggled to finish, while the second time had proved an easier solve. This time round I relived that very first experience, although it must be said that I have enjoyed and admired all three of these Klingsors puzzles.

Had a pretty miserable time with this, I’m afraid. The theme was partly, but not entirely, to blame…

There’s a straightforward theme to this puzzle, with a number of clues leading to examples of the word at 12ac. Some of them are probably a bit obscure, though I think I have come across them all before, albeit perhaps only in crosswords.

Another enjoyable crossword from Tees, who also sets as Neo in the Financial Times.

Monday Prize Crossword/Jan 16
A fine offering from Crux. The level of difficulty just right ‘for a Monday puzzle’, but, having said that, no hint of routine cluing. A crossword full of elegant surfaces. My PinC’s verdict when I showed her the puzzle after completion: “this setter’s got finesse”. I totally agree!

A nice crossword from Crosophile today. He is doing a good job of filling the gap left by Dac on the last Wednesday of every month. Read the rest of this entry »

One on the easier end of the Guardian spectrum, apart from a couple of perhaps less familiar references.

Down answers are ‘affected’ before entry; Across clues are ‘affected’ before solving.
Either I got lucky, or this was easy (or both).

I said in yesterday’s blog that I was going to have the same again today. How true! Visiting family and friends, a blog, and then - a crossword in the same style by the same setter, and to top it, a clue verbatim from yesterday and a definition used twice, as happened yesterday. (As close as I can get to reliving yesterday?) Anyway, thanks Dante-Rufus for the usual double and cryptic definitions, anagrams, nice surfaces and nautical references. Definitions are underlined in the clues. The two sets of pictures at the bottom each has an unidentified link to the blog/crossword.

Enter The Dragon. To those who are not aware, yesterday marked the first day of the Lunar New Year and ushered in the year of the dragon.

Gah I hate insomnia but it means an early post. Slight surprise to see the editor again, but very welcome nonetheless. On seeing Eimi I was a little self duped into thinking this would be a stroll in the park as I sometimes do, but I certainly didn’t find it so this time, I have some minor niggles in my head still and comments suggestions welcome.

Apologies for the later than usual posting. Thanks Rufus for a typical gentle start to the week, and to the New Year, the Lunar one, that is. Today’s the first day of the Chinese New Year celebrations, marked by the traditional visiting of family and friends, the reason for my being late. And if you’re celebrating, A Happy Chinese New Year of the Dragon to you too. Definitions are underlined in the clues. The set of pictures at the bottom has an unidentified link to the crossword.
