We like Phi so we were really pleased that our first blog was one of his. When we saw the number of themed clues however, we wondered what we were taking on. It didn’t take too long thankfully to unravel the theme.

Guardian 25,544 / Paul

We thought this was fairly tough for one of Paul’s puzzles, but very enjoyable, as usual. Our main problem was putting an incorrect (but fairly plausible) answer in for 28 across.

Enigmatic Variations 1002 Simple Subtraction by Charybdis

So 10 unclued entries this week, and all in a “depleted” form. And either one or two letters have been added to some clues (whenever thematically possible) . All very cryptic – ah but this is a cryptic crossword with a twist or 2. Sounds intriguing.
