Never heard of ULE before, nms, but you’re right – it’s there in my SOED (but not my Collins) as a variant spelling of HULE for the Central American rubber tree (and the rubber itself). It comes from the Nahuatl (originally Aztec) language, which has also given us ‘axolotl’, ‘chocolate’ and ‘tomato’.
