I enjoyed this one too. Being old enough to remember my excitement during the early days of the space-race in the 1960s I got 15d straight off. John Glenn was the first US astronaut to orbit the earth – an achievement that is hinted at in the clue. He went on to become a US senator.

All I could think of was John Green and despite running through all the Beatles names, I just couldn’t see anything else.
