While 1a,3d,13a couldn’t have been anything else, I would still be trying to work out the word play
1a& 3d Hadn’t heard of bled or acre.
13a I’m afraid I still I don’t see this. Starts =launches. How does “to avoid key” mean remove the letter “a”?

No really stubborn clues this week but still very entertaining. For pure entertainment, I think it’s the highlight of the week.
I did however think that rat=desert was a stretch too far.

I particularly liked OUTCAST, TO SAY THE LEAST, COURIER, WEASEL, ETHEREAL and HAIRDO (my COD). Thanks.
