I don’t think I have blogged Styx before.  I enjoyed this and although it was straightforward I did not find it easy.  The challenge with Styx seems to be interpreting the subtle definitions and misdirections rather than untangling convoluted wordplay.

Guardian 25,691 – Qaos

This is Qaos’s fourth weekday puzzle since his debut in January this year. I actually solved and blogged this last night, then found I’d written a rather grumpy blog and decided to sleep on it. My opinion has mellowed slightly overnight, but I still have quite a few criticisms, particularly of clues where a major element of the answer is clued by a definition of a meaning that is almost identical to that used in the answer. I think 16ac is a particularly bad example of this. On the other hand there are some sound and nicely-constructed clues, so it’s not all bad news.

Inquisitor 1237: Revolutionary by Ploy

Looking at the Inquisitor index, I see that this is Ploy’s sixth puzzle in the Inquisitor series.  I have been blogging Inquisitors about once a month since November 2007 but I haven’t blogged any of Ploy’s previous five.  I have also come across Ploy in the Magpie.  The Crossword Who’s Who on the Best for Puzzles website tells me that Ploy also sets for The Listener and Enigmatic Variations.  I will have solved Ploy’s puzzzles in The istener but Enigmatic Variations is not a series I have looked at.
