Well... This one was a night cap for us, with a blank page when the lights went out last night, but daylight turned the brain on finally! As usual we're a month behind in NZ- it's not a date line we're behind it's a month line! Singapore Sling is a gem and our first, with Tallinn the last and a peak at capitals on the web.
Thankyou

I agree it's a bit of an unusual name, Bamberger, and you'd have to be a Paul Simon fan to have come across 'René and Georgette Magritte with their Dog after the War'. But it's a good song from PS's best album, imho.

I would never have got 7d had it not appeared in the FT of 24.09 as " Curse male accompanied by girl".
In fact I have been on for a record time had I been to solve G?o?g?t?e. I don't think I've ever come anyone called Georgette. Googling gives Georgette Heyer but not much else.

Thank you, both Everyman and Pierre! An especially enjoyable puzzle this week, in my opinion. I got a real chuckle out of 3 Down! And 14 Across was so clever, with the "gins" on each side! 7 Down was new to me but easy enough from the crossings. The last to go in for me was 1 Down. I did get it finally from the crossing letters and the straight definition, but I'm so bad at anything to do with sports that the very clue made me freeze! I guess IN for batting is some sort of cricket term? I can't even begin to understand American baseball, and despite my patient husband's explanations over 40 years I only just recently came to realize that (in American baseball) the guy throwing the ball is trying to get it past the guy with the bat and to the guy with the mask on! All these years I thought he wanted the guy with the bat to hit the ball! My husband was somewhat astonished about this, but then I told his sister, who's also sports-challenged, and she thought the same as I did! Anyway, a fun puzzle! I'm posting early, after 8 PM on Saturday night here because I won't have time tomorrow as we're going to see a production of "Hamlet." The Globe Theater, or I should say Theatre, is on tour in New York. We're looking forward to it very much. Wishing you all a wonderful week and "see you" next time!
