I didn’t know Meredith but the cluing and crossing letters made it gettable. I particularly liked ANY PORT IN A STORM and ON THE FACE OF IT.

We had ‘FORESIGHT’ as a gift horse put out a couple of weeks ago. (21 October) I winged about ‘caution’ as the definition. No problem with ‘vision’ this time!

Yet another entertaining Everyman with all clues being gettable even though I didn’t know George Meredith.
David Lean would be familiar to many people as the director of Lawrence of Arabia and maybe Brief Encounter
but probably not to a lot of younger people. I particularly liked APATHY, TALENT SPOTTER (clue of the day)
and GLEANED (very smooth). Thanks Everyman.

I solved this unaided but had no idea how 1d,13c, 18d & 26a worked.
Lean and Meredith were total unknowns -I do wish Everyman would avoid using people who may be well known to those interested in their but mean nothing to others.
