I think this makes it two Cinephiles in three weeks for me – what a treat. I thought this was a delight and at the same time (and at risk of being hit with another peacocking charge) rather a doddle. But then, I’m a sucker for a festive-themed puzzle, and the Master has pulled out all the Christmassy stops here. I’m sure, however, that not everyone will have been as happy as I was to bowl tolerantly along with Cinephile’s trademark liberties…

Guardian 25,818 – Paul

Yes, it’s me for the second time this week, standing in for scchua, who is away. It was a bit of a surprise to get Paul today after Araucaria yesterday, but a pleasant one, of course. I found this quite tricky to get going on, with a lot of interconnected clues involving 15,17 and the initially mysterious 10,3, but I got there in the end.

Monday Prize Crossword/Dec 3

When there’s something special going on in the World Of Whatever the FT has its very own cryptic reporter: Gaff.  Unfortunately, the theme of Gaff’s puzzle was given away on beforehand which was a real shame. On top of that, a kind of weird was the fact that the preamble revealed the solution for 8d. While this crossword was perhaps more ‘exciting’ than the usual Monday fare, there were certainly pluses but a few minuses too.
