I don’t think I’ve blogged a Gurney puzzle before (though I’ve come across him as Raich in the Indie). This turned out to be a speedy, enjoyable solve. At the very easiest end of the FT difficulty spectrum, I think, but fairly-clued, varied and good fun.

After being stretched a bit by the setter’s setter-mum yesterday, I was expecting the worst. And, on the first pass, I could not, if at all, connect more than 2 answers together. But, after a while, it yielded especially after getting the 2 related long answers. Thanks for the challenge, Shed – enjoyed it. Definitions are underlined in the clues. P.S. Since this is my first Guardian Cryptic blog for 2013, may I take this opportunity to wish all at the 15sq Guardian Cryptic Category a Happy, Healthy and Fun-filled New Year.

It’s while since we had a Thursday Anax to blog and we really look forward to his offerings. This one didn’t disappoint, with some fiendishly crafted clues amongst a few relatively simple ones, an 8-word anagram and a 6-word phrase.

Monday Prize Crossword/Dec 31
After the excitement of last week’s Carte Rosée, this FT puzzle (celebrating the end of the year 2012) was Dante as we all know him: smooth and friendly. And one with a grid
. Nothing too taxing – more or less plain sailing, I would say. Perhaps an overdose of CDs and DDs in the Across clues, while a similar thing could be said about anagrams in the Down ones.
