Another enjoyable offering from Tuesday regular, Jason. All straightforward, except perhaps 20, my last one in, and of which I’m not totally certain. Thanks to Jason. Definitions are underlined in the clues. [[The pictures at the bottom have unidentified links to the puzzle.]]

A brisk morning canter … nothing too esoteric or obscure although I was disconcerted by a few unusual abbreviations not found in Chambers. I have donated all my dead-tree copies of dictionaries to my club library and depend primarily on my diskette copy of Chambers plus on-line dictionaries via One Look.

Liked a lot of clues in this, especially 24ac, 27ac, 2dn and 8dn. A couple of question marks over 16ac and 7dn.

Always a pleasure to get a Raich to blog, and I enjoyed battling with this one. A tough solve for a Monday, though, I found.

So, a new setter (I think!). Not sure if Kairos goes by another name elsewhere, but either way, this was a cracking Indy debut. I got a couple of quick anagrams here and thought it was going to be easy, but then struggled with a lot of others. No complaints though, as there were some lovely clues – 14D was particularly good, as was 1D. Look forward to seeing more Kairos soon.

Harder than usual even for an Azed. I had to check the BRB for well over half of the answers. OK I’m lying. Closer to 80%. A couple of unsolved wordplays await within.

A lovely puzzle in the Everyman style for our Sunday morning diversion. Plenty to enjoy in this one.

It’s an even greater pleasure than usual to blog an Araucaria puzzle on the day the Guardian published an interview with him. Despite his recent revelation, there is no sign of any decline in his inventiveness, and this puzzle is as good as any he has produced in recent years. It has references ranging from Greek mythology through Shakespeare to television and the internet. Thanks to my solving partner Timon for the tea and cake (and for parsing 12 down). There seem to have been quite a few Saturday Prize puzzles from Tees recently, but this is the first to have fallen on my blogging schedule. An interesting puzzle with a little extra…and a couple of quibbles…

Did anybody get a really tough jigsaw for Xmas – the kind that you start and then realise you’ve bitten off a bit more than you can chew, with everything else that’s going on at Xmas, and it sits around being worked away at through most of January? I didn’t…but this puzzle, which came out on 12th night, as the decorations were being taken down, more than made up for it – certainly the hardest EV I remember having to blog for a while. Got there in the end, and hugely satisfying, but a tough workout!

What a treat, at the end of a week of excellent puzzles, to get a lovely puzzle from Arachne! Not quite such a tussle as it often is but full of the characteristic witty clues and ingenious constructions, along with amusing story-telling surfaces – great stuff! Many thanks, Arachne, for the fun and entertainment.
