London Crossword Gathering – 4th April 2020 – Update

The organiser of this event will no longer be visiting the UK in April (please see comment #21) but it appears from subsequent comments that others still want the meeting to take place.

The Independent/FT setter Rob (Knut/Julius) is visiting the UK in April and has organised a cruciverbal get-together from midday on Saturday April 4th. The venue is The Loft Bar (upper level) at The Parcel Yard, above platform 10 at King’s Cross Station.

  1. thanks to Gaufrid for posting this – it was Eimi’s suggestion actually. About 25 people have already confirmed their attendance to me in case you were worried it might just be me and a possible appearance by dear Skinny..

    warmest regards to all, Rob

  2. It would be great to be there but, alas, I’m already booked for a music weekend in Ilkley then.  Best wishes, though, for a successful event.

  3. This sounds tempting especially as the location is so convenient for me, and it would be great to meet up with some 15²ers I haven’t met before as well as Rob and others I have, but we will have to see how 2019nCoV develops.

By April it might be unwise — even illegal — to attend a gathering like this, especially at a transit interchange.

  4. Intending to be there with my arm in a tight sling, so unable to hold both glass of ale and Chambers. However, TC’s words (10) are wise.

  5. I’m not really the panicking sort but in view of the increasing number of airlines cancelling flights and the ramping-up of pandemic planning for the coronavirus I’ve decided not to travel to London in early April. We flew back into Basel from Sevilla last Saturday and the airport was extremely congested so it’s probably for the best if I plan something later in the year when hopefully the hot weather will have melted the virus.
I’m sorry for mucking you around and hope to see you soon.
    Warmest regards to all,
    Rob

sorry dude (my flights & hotel are non-refundable too) but I think a few people will still be there – just not me. I’d recommend booking a free visit online to the SkyGarden in the walkie-talkie in Fenchurch St if it’s a clear day

  7. This whole outbreak is causing me a little concern. My daughter moves back to Japan next month, and we have flights to join her in April. I’m checking the travel insurance very, very carefully.

  8. We will be in London that day as we have already booked transport and the theatre! If it still goes ahead we will be there.

  9. I’m hoping my music weekend doesn’t get called off, but if it does I might be able to make it to London.

the speed of events is pretty breathtaking. As it happens, I just got an email from EasyJet letting me know my flights have been cancelled anyhow. See you later in the year, hopefully

  11. I had been wondering whether the gathering would make it to the 4/4  without getting cancelled. I suspect there won’t be a Parcel Yard to meet in and no trains to get there by then anyway. Very best wishes to all the folks I was looking forward to meeting, and let’s trust another opportunity comes around before too long.
