This was an enjoyable thematic puzzle based on Samuel Beckett (1,4 ac). I’ll put some more up when I can, but I’ve been in bed with flu for the last 3 days, and this is the first puzzle I’ve solved in that time. Starting to feel dizzy again…crawling back to my pit…

If you want to stay in your pit recovering, give me a shout and I’ll blog it for you.
I haven’t blogged yet this week – I was assigned the Boxing Day Guardian crossword – and I drove three or four times round Cheshire before a petrol-station bloke broke it to me that there’s no Guardian on Boxing Day … Guess that’s the sort of trick you’d expect to be played on the newbie (get me a left-handed screwdriver, go and ask for a long stand etc.)
Puck is a favourite compiler of mine – usually do-able, but always amusing and clever.
I enjoyed this – as Stan said, doable: I managed to get everything except 19down without having heard of any of the works by Beckett (except Godot, and I didn’t realise that was by him).
Themed crosswords can be a bit disappointing sometimes if the themed clues are unsolvable before looking at a list of the author’s books (or whatever) and trivial afterwards.
Alan – 19D is Murphy which is the Irish (Beckett) name for a potato e.g King Edward
