Thanks for the blog. Just adding a comment to make you feel it was worth it nmsindy as I stuck with 5 clues to go.
i’ve only just started to get the Independent on Sundays; not sure that I can remember a Quixote before. A nice balance of diffficulty in clues and 2 nice long anagrams, but i couldn’t get the marines in 17 ac having never heard the expression. Not sure that “serve” in 4 dn was particularly synonymous with “additional help” so I discounted it.
Oh yes I enjoyed yesterday’s Quixote (29th Nov) too. Thankyou
Thanks, pennes, blog on 29 Nov puzzle scheduled for 1 00 AM 3 Dec. In CONSERVE, which was tricky, I think ‘serve’ was ‘help’ with ‘additional’ being a link ie ‘serve’ was ‘additional’ to ‘con’. A puzzle always worth tackling, on the easy side in the Indy spectrum (and indeed otherwise) and everything adds up nicely.
Just getting to know how some of the many compilers of ‘I cryptic crossword’ think… Always a good challenge. Different thought processes every day.
