Last call for flight SBM04 to Derby

Eileen has once again allowed me to hack into her Fifteensquared account to post final details of the Sloggers and Betters Midlands get-together this coming Saturday, November 10th.

We are up to about 35, with a nice mixture of old friends and new faces.  Most importantly, I need those people who were ‘maybes’ when the event was first publicised to let me know if they are in the ‘definite’ or ‘sorry, I’ve had a better offer’ category.  If you’ve already done this directly with me, thank you.   I need to confirm numbers for the buffet, which I’ve arranged to be three options, including a vegetarian one, for £8 a head, but on the basis of payment in cash, so please bring some readies.  There is a cashpoint machine in Derby station if you forget.

On which point, Derby station is undergoing a major refurbishment, so you’ll be confronted by serious building work when you come out (take the main exit and not Pride Park, by the way).  Make your way round the chaos, and Waterfall is just on your right.  If you’re intending to go to the Brunswick Inn before or after, it’s 100m on past Waterfall.

Allan_C has done a bit of investigation into parking options: the station car park which is right across the road from Waterfall is £6 all day on a Saturday; there are cheaper alternatives with a privately-run car park on the corner of Siddals Road and Copeland Street which charges £3 to park all day.  And there’s an NCP car park next to it where it’s £3.50 for 24 hours.  For SatNav users the postcode DE1 2PY applies to both.  They’re about 5-10 minutes’ walk from Waterfall (passing the Brunswick on the way).

We’re still on for 1230 for a 1300 buffet, but Waterfall is open from 1000.  Have a good journey, and Eileen and I will look forward to meeting everyone next Saturday.  We are in the Niagara room upstairs, but we will be congregating in the bar downstairs to begin with.  My mobile is 07802 154569 if you need to contact me on the day.  Or before then, mail pwharvey {at} msn {dot} com

There is still time to join us, but please let me know by close of play on Wednesday at the latest.

  1. I think I put myself down as a ‘maybe’ previously, but due to work commitments will now be unable to be there. Apologies; I hope all who make it have a good time!

  2. I also put myself down as a maybe but family commitments make it impossible, sorry. Enjoy yourselves and be kind to any Ximeneans passing your way, won’t you?

  3. Thanks once more to Peter (K’s D) for organizing this. Another excellent opportunity to meet people, have fun and purchase one of Eric’s 3D crossword calendars for the upcoming year. Even the post-session quiz (“kindly” provided by John/Nimrod) was rendered less painful by the availability of the splendid Brunswick brews!
