Guardian Quiptic 710 / Nutmeg

My third Nutmeg puzzle in a row!  I must be getting used to her style as I found this one to be fairly easy.

Most of the definitions given are from Chambers 12th Edition. Most of the standard abbreviations used in the wordplay are shown with the unused letters in brackets e.g. L(eft). Definitions are underlined in the clue and only included in explanations where further information is given.

  1. I found this harder than today’s Rufus.

At 1ac I was thinking of how to fit a reversal of Nell into the answer until the penny dropped. I thought the clue for GET ROUND TO was excellent.

  2. Robi

Entertaining puzzle, although a bit difficult for a Quiptic, I thought.

Thanks Big Dave; EAGLET was a bit tricky, needing appropriate knowledge of golf. The 22’s took a while as ‘constant’ [22a] could be c,g,h,k etc. I was also nicely misled by the ‘musical gathering [22d.]’ 🙂

GET ROUND T(w)O was great, and I also particularly liked BEAKERS and QUANTIFIED.

  3. Jezza

I liked this one. Did anyone else spot the NINA?
Thanks to Nutmeg, and to Big Dave.

  4. crypticsue

I found this harder work than both today’s Rufi but I did spot the NINA, which is a rare day for me.

    Thanks to Nutmeg and BD

  5. Robi

I’ve got the RUSSELL and SLOANE SQUARES, but what is the ‘NOT SUE??’ 😕

  7. Robi

    Doh! 🙁

  8. michelle

I found this easier than the Rufus, and I did not spot the NINA.

My favourite clues were 9a, 6d & 11a (last in).

    I could not parse 23a.

Thanks for the blog, Big Dave.
