Arguably harder than today’s daily crossword, but nothing too taxing. I don’t recall having come across ‘cent’ as an abbreviation for ‘century’ in a crossword before, but that’s probably just a memory thing. Informative blog as ever scchua, so thanks for that.
Fine Quiptic; blog the same. Thanks both.
NINETEEN my favourite today (now you’ve explained it).
A very enjoyable puzzle. The type of wordplay used in 13ac appears in normal Guardian puzzles from time to time so I guess there is no reason why beginners shouldn’t be exposed to it in a Quiptic. The long answer made me smile when I saw it. NINETEEN was my LOI, although it would have been entered much sooner had I bothered to look again at 11ac.
Largely OK for a Quiptic, although some might not know DONATELLO and ESCUTCHEON.
Thanks scchua; I was not very keen on WET=foolish (feeble, yes) but I see it is in my Oxford Thesaurus.
I particularly liked PICNIC and EYESIGHT.
