Beelzebub 1,248

A two-sitting solve this week, with the Chambers app getting a thorough workout towards the end.

Lots of nice long anagrams to work through, which can always be quite satisfying. Of those, the 13-letter 19 across would have opened the grid right up, had it fallen into place sooner, but in my case was one of the last in.

28 across still lacks an explanation, though I’m reasonably confident I’ve the right answer.

*=anagram, []=dropped, <=reversed.
