  1. 23a Actually it is DAM+SON. ‘Dam’ is a form of ‘damn’ or ‘damned’ (Chambers).

  2. Re 23a: I would slightly alter Rishi’s parsing – I think it is a reversal of MAD (fuming about) + SON.
