Is this a good date? If so, please confirm below then Jane and I will go ahead and organise it. Half-term for the teachers, and it worked in Sheffield this time last year (some bloke’s birthday). We’ll try and get deals for Fri/Sat, Sat/Sun and Fri/Sat/Sun if all approved.

    Had similar before and got better deals later so we will try to be there.

    Just like at the Guardian site, we can see the clues that were already sent in and then try to be different.

    BTW, Flashling, I presume you mean “back 62 pounds”?
    And if that is indeed so, 88 pounds for two returns is not really bad. I’ve had a lot worse. For example, return for one to Liverpool for over a hundred pounds.
    In Holland (and many other European countries) you pay for the number of kilometres you travel. In my opinion, that is how it should be. Here in the UK it is a jungle. Going on a train is like boarding an airplane. A complete rip-off.
    Having said all this, hope to see you again in York!

    It is not yet known how First TransPennine Express services will be affected by engineering work from Saturday 25 to Friday 31 October 2014. Please check back nearer the time of travel.

It is nice of nationalrail to give the warning, but changes due to planned engineering work are supposed to be reflected in the rail timetable 12 weeks in advance so they should be there for that weekend on all of the ticketing websites already. TransPennine disruption would most likely affect those travelling from the Manchester/Lancashire area (and possibly Scarborough and Teesside).

  40. Think I’m on for this but can’t check band diary from where I am, which is an Italian place where it’s very hot and sunny and fantastically marvelous and blah blah blah you’re all jealous blah blah. But internet is crap. Still – hot, sunny, marvelous etc.

    The date is fine but York is a bit too far for me to do in one day. I may persuade ‘himself’ that it would be a good place to visit for a weekend in the campervan if there is a campsite nearby.

    Hopefully you’ll let us know, via this thread, what times and arrangements there will be for the Saturday.

    Thanks for your interest, everyone. It looks like we will go with that weekend (if you want to start investigating trains), but we are still searching for a combination of appropriate location(s)/accommodation. Bear with us for just a few more days…
