  1. pic 2) Anne Hathaway, who wanted to be a NUN when she was younger

pic 7) A quilt which could be one’s SLEEPING PARTNER

  2. pic 3 shows a brothel, providing what some men YEARN for

pic 7 shows a quilt, the stuffing for which is often KAPOK

ditto for the Whooper swans in pic 8

  3. @ Freddy well done on KAPOK. Hope it’s right.

No idea on 1. It looks like a film poster but I don’t watch films. 3 looks like a station somewhere in the sub continent region but no ideas on that one either.

Come on Scchua, tell us which are correct.

  4. almw3 and Freddy, sorry, a bit late responding – hectic day. Pic8 is the Whooper Swan or ELK.

Pic1: Ravel’s Bolero (composer and dance pictured) is based on an ostinato, a LICK, in popular music, a repeated pattern of a short series of notes.
Pic2: Selfies are taken more easily with a selfie-stick, an adaptation of the UNIPOD.
Pic3: That establishment would have also been called a NUNnery in Elizabethan times.
    Pic4: That’s a NARROW gauge railway.
Pic7: The pieces that make up the quilt have been FUSSY cut, ie. each cut around a stand-alone pattern (and perhaps the end product filled with KAPOK later.)

  5. So we only got 3 out of 8! Not too hot for a joint effort! But do enjoy this BOGOF, Scchua, so hope you keep them coming.

  6. Thanks for the fun scchua – you clearly have a devious mind. Just a minor quibble: the railway picture (4), taken of the train pulling into Ahmadpur East in Pakistan looks more like their broad gauge. Take a closer look here. Narrow gauge is one metre.

I also echo the sentiments of almw3 – in Canada we call that a twofer
