Many EVs have marked moments of one kind or another. Will this be an historical occasion, a moment in a process, or something else entirely. (Excellent! I’ve written an introduction that doesn’t mention semen.)
I thought this was utterly lovely. Jumping ahead somewhat, the finished grid gives an impressive visual representation of ‘The Seminal Moment’.
I found it perhaps a little easier than some EVs of late, for which I was grateful.
A number of the clues were solvable on a first sweep, and the additional letters came together to give MURRAY ACES FEDERER TO WIN OLYMPIC GOLD AT WIMBLEDON (I found the letters of OLYMPIC a big help).
And lo! That moment is recaptured with the three elements:
ANDY
THE NET
ROGER
And the ball being given by the pre-shaded yellow square, which is (appropriately enough) to be filled with an ‘O’.
The perimeter reads: BALLBOY, BASELINE, LINE JUDGE, CAMERAS, SCORE, ROYAL BOX, EXIT, UMPIRE (according to the preamble, LINE must be doing double duty), all of which are around the Wimbledon centre court.
I’m no tennis expert, but I assume that the ‘seminality’ of the moment may be a reference to Murray’s ‘seed’ position, or of him beating the no.1 seed or somesuch. Anywhichway, as I say, lovely.
Unfortunately, however, I can’t parse 8dn, though it may have something to do with being ‘jugged’.
