The following pictures have unidentified links to the puzzle.

(Please post comments on ONLY the picture quiz hereinbelow. To post comments on the crossword puzzle, please click here.)
#1 is a Chinese restaurant, where they’ll prolly “enhance” the flavours with MSG = ie GLUTAMATE – so 14d
#3 is by the artist (sic) Man RAY – so 25a
#6 TETRIS (6d) is also a card game
RHONE and ROSE could both link to wine but I’m struggling to connect them to Chardonnay – OTOH the Gouda cheese does come from the milk of CATTLE.
#5 23a BUENOS AIRES comes from the Spanish for “fair winds”, ie fair for sailing – which the depicted kids seem to be enjoying.
Twenty QUESTIONs for pic 4?
JollySwagman and HKColin:
Pic1: The Chinese Restaurant Syndrome caused by Mono-Sodium GLUTAMATE.
Pic3: A re-creation of the original by surrealist Man RAY.
Pic4: Animal, vegetable or mineral was the clue given to players at the start of the panel quiz show 20 QUESTIONs.
Well done, but…
ROSE and RHONE and cheese are out of the picture, as is BUENOS AIRES. And it’s another card game I’m thinking of.
I’ve been beaten to most of my insights, but #5 is a HIKER. Much more approachable quiz than yesterday’s FT, thanks.
Right, Ian SW3.
Re pic #6 the card game Cheat is also known as Bullshit so does that make the players 12ac BULLSHITTERS?
There is such a thing as a THISTLE poppy.
picture 2 poppycock…bullshit?
Pic 7 seems to be lots of different cakes – a “pan cake”?
Hard to see but are the slices of cake in #7 sitting on a LAZY Susan?
just looked poppycock up in the dictionary, it comes from the dutch dialect ‘pap’, soft, and ‘kak’, dung.
Another one to you HKColin.
et al: you’re on right track with wine and cake respectively for the remaining two.
In picture 5, leaning out to balance the boat is called hiking, so the person doing it is a HIKER
The Poppy wine bottle, a registered nurse ?
oops, sorry, didn’t read all the blogs
I don’t think that photo is by Man Ray, it is an inferior re-creation.
pic 2) There is a winemaker called DEAD BOLT ?
… or perhaps Chardonnay and double cream Gouda are considered an IDEAL pairing
If the wine is Chardonnay, the French word chardon = thistle in English
There is a lazy daisy cake, but it does not look like the ones in the picture
You’re right, Cookie. The wine (in the picture) and grape is named after Chardonnay, in turn meaning an area of THISTLEs (chardon in French). And there is a cake called a LAZY DAISY (showing the cake in question would have been too much of a giveaway).
That wraps it up. Thanks all for joining in.
Congratulations to JollySwagman on being the first to comment on both versions of this blog.
Sorry to disagree with Scchua @4 but a couple of my former colleagues did some research on “Chinese restaurant syndrome” and MSG and debunked the theory.
You can read the abstract here.

Thanks for the pic comp scchua – always enjoy them when I can get to them in time.
