York S & B – cryptics

Last Saturday’s marvellous York meeting was not just about beer, wine and cider. Or Wein Weib und Gesang as it was called centuries ago. The incomparable John Henderson gave us a lecture in pop quizzes, brilliantly done (and I mean that) but mostly lost on me, I fear. I didn’t have the courage to lift Polly’s hand to cheat on the answers that must have been correct since Jim T (otherwise known as Lato and Tyrus) was part of her team. And, of course, there were crosswords all around. If I am right, there were three non-newspaper puzzles available. A blog of John’s puzzle (this time as Elgar) can be found at Big Dave’s site, the other two are blogged below (and in Sundry Puzzles).

Both setters are really keen to get feedback.

BTW, what a great idea to organise a similar event in Oz.

  1. Thanks for doing that Sil – I must get round to finishing them, though I will almost certainly be defeated by the Elgar given my slow progress on that so far…
