Those of you who have been visiting this site for a while now will no doubt remember the appeal I made back in December 2012 for help towards the annual hosting costs when we moved over to a new, and has been proven better, hosting company. The response to this appeal far exceeded my expectations as I indicated in my subsequent ‘thank you’ announcement. To save me some typing I have copied/pasted the relevant two paragraphs below:
“When I first mentioned donations, my hope was that there would be enough offers to meet the hosting costs for the next twelve months. The initial response to my request was such that I quickly had to revise my target to two years, which had the added benefit of being able to take advantage of the discount available on the hosting company’s biennial tariff.
However, this still became an unrealistic target as offers of donations continued to come in, at a far greater rate than I had originally anticipated. The end result is that, if/when the final contributions arrive, there will be enough in the kitty to pay for a third year’s hosting! My apologies to those who wanted to donate more but, as you can see, the £5 I set was certainly enough.”
Now for the good, or rather even better, news. The improved statistics available to me from the new hosting company have enabled me to more accurately determine the bandwidth used by the site and with this information I have been able to transfer to a hosting plan that has a lower annual charge. This, along with the hosting company’s biennial tariff, has meant that there was enough left in the kitty to pay for a further two years hosting, not just one.
So, thanks to the generosity of those who contributed towards the hosting costs back in December 2012, we now have the hosting paid for until December 2016. 🙂
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the support team at Evo, our hosting company, for the excellent service they have provided during the last two years. Response to a query/problem has been rapid, invariably within an hour or two sometimes within minutes, and the assistance given has been extensive and invaluable. The level of customer service provided by Evo has been far higher than that which I’ve experienced with any other company or organisation in recent years.
That has got to be good news all round. Thank you, Gaufrid, for all your work in keeping us up and running; sounds like you should continue to give the business to Evo.
My fiver is ready when you next need it.
Mine too.
Unusually good news! Congratulations, Gaufrid – you’ve clearly picked a winner.
Many thanks for all your efforts, as always, and I too will be happy to contribute as needed.
I rarely contribute comments – time constraints mean I’m usually too late to make any useful contribution (or one that hasn’t already been made) but I look in most days for the Guardian, Azed or Genius, and I consider my fiver very well spent. Averaged out over time it’s probably the best value for money I’ve encountered. How nice to have a good story on the economy!
Thanks Gaufrid.
Thanks again for your efforts. Funds available again when needed.
What Phi said, Gaufrid.
Thanks for everything.
Yes, thanks Gaufrid. I often think that my small donation was money well spent. You don’t want George Osborne’s job , do you?
Thanks Gaufrid, excellent job!
I say the same as K’s D.
Many thanks for the hosting.
I have also noted that when the scheduled blogger goes AWOL then you leap in and fill the gap so many thanks for that as well.
Fabulous news…please keep up the good work all. More than happy to keep supporting it when the time comes.
missed the whip round – how do i donate?
Hi Ilan
Thanks for the offer but there is no need for more funds at this stage. The hosting costs have been paid for the next two years but I will no doubt be passing the hat round in November 2016.
Thanks Gaufrid – come 2016 I will be contributing too…
Myopic me! –
Only just spotted the ‘good news’. Well done Gaufrid and thanks for all the pleasure you help bring us (and all the fish, of course!)
This is another ‘Hear Hear!’ to all above…
