  1. Good to have you back with the picture quiz, scchua.

Well, obviously, The Flintstones (#1) are an oblique reference to their inspiration, The Honeymooners, which was in BLACK and WHITE (as are the various people in #4 and #8). Or perhaps it’s something else.

But seriously, is one of the cakes in #6 a BLACK FOREST?

I can’t make out the contents of the fish tank in #7, but is there perhaps a PANDA fish?

  2. Are the Emmy awards a reference to the nomination of Tatiana Maslany, the brilliant Canadian actress who has belatedly been nominated for her incredible work in Orphan BLACK? Or did Orange is the New BLACK get a nod as well?

  3. #6 I thought the cake int he foregronud might be a Dundee cake – got nowhere with that – maybe it’s an almond RICOTTA cake. Ricotta can be used in lots of cakes, including cheesecake.

  4. Yes, it’s TAXI that won quite a few Emmy awards, and BLACK FOREST is a cake.
    Hints for the others:
    Pic1: Wilma Flintstone
    Pic4: The Full Monty
    Pic5: Dawn French
    Pic7: An aquarium fish.

  5. Dawn French probably drinks Chablis, it being French.

I’m still going for the recent Emmy nod for Tatiana Maslany of Orphan BLACK even if it’s wrong, because she is brilliant.

  6. Yes, Ian SW3, AURORA is the goddess of dawn.
The PANDA catfish is an aquarium fish, but there’s also another aquarium fish link.

  7. Hi cookie, Freddy just got up – not much time this morning to grapple with scchua’s devious mind

pic 7) Aquarium shows the silhouette of a (model) GUILLEMOT in the top right corner ??

  8. pic 8) Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and Greg Rutherford all got gold medals – MONOCHROMATIC or what?

  9. Cookie, yes, the CHOCOLATE cichlid is a popular aquarium fish.
Pic8: The London event, not too long ago.

  10. pic 1) Wilma Flintstone was known for her spending binges which would result in their account being OVERDRAWn ??

  11. Sorry, busy morning, Ian SW3.
Pic1: Wilma is a feminine form of William, which in French is Guillaume, from which the name GUILLEMOT for the bird is derived
Pic3: The Candy Group, an Italian company, acquired the HOOVER brand in Europe
Pic4: The film version of The Full Monty, featured the song “You Sexy Thing”, by the group Hot CHOCOLATE
Pic8: The giant PANDA (or a doll based on it) was one of the mascots for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

  12. Thanks scchua for all the fun, I thought of the name Guillaume, but stupidly did not tie it in with Wilma, and knew the Candy make of household appliances! I think we are all out of practise after your long absence.

  13. Hi cookie – it’s ‘practice’ not ‘practise’; general rule is ‘c’ for noun and ‘s’ for verb (as in practise, devise, license etc). This is not me being a Zoilist, honestly, but, in view of the globe-trotting nature of your life, I thought you mind find advice(not advise!) helpful.
